What Does An Olympia Kitchen Designer's Kitchen Look Like?

Kitchen Cabinets before
Family Room Before(during)

For Cabinets by Trivonna, the answer to that question begs another question: When?

We bought a 70's vintage fixer-upper in 2005. Before we could remodel the kitchen, we decided to open our business – thus delaying our dream kitchen.

The original kitchen was so bad that I didn't take any "before" pictures until after we had begun to tear out the wall separating our kitchen and family room.

Our refrigerator would not fit in the hole provided. I had to chop of the cabinet above, and take about an inch off the cabinet to the left. When the dishwasher was open, one couldn't open the freezer door without hitting it.

The cook top was on the end of the Island near the refrigerator (couldn't open it while someone was standing at the cook top).

It was hard on Trivonna to come home to that kitchen for over five years!

Having removed the wall, Trivonna placed the refrigerator in what was the family room, making room for a gas range. She moved the wall ovens only slightly, thus saving the cost of moving the electrical and making room for a pantry.

I love my new kitchen – but not as much as I love my kitchen designing wife – Trivonna!!

Cabinets By Trivonna Revitalizes A Kitchen Space

Kitchen Before Remodel

When Megan first approached Trivonna about remodeling her kitchen, she was frustrated: A lack of storage space, counter work space, and a limited budget gave her that well known hopeless feeling. Trivonna soon learned that Megan was also using her kitchen to pursue her jewelry-making hobby.

Trivonna suggested removing the drop ceiling, thus allowing room for 36 inch upper cabinets (instead of 30 inch). She moved the refrigerator across the room, placing the stove and microwave in its place with counter space on either side. She straightened the island, providing more storage and less wasted space in the corners. By designing the island as one level, Trivonna provided a three by six uninterrupted workspace and bar seating.

On the vacant wall to the left of the Island, we now find two 36 inch pantry cabinets, an extra oven with storage above and below, and a desk area for Megan's jewelry-making. The pantry to the right is for food, while the one to the left is for jewelry supplies. To keep the cost down, the old refrigerator was retained; but room was provided for a larger new one. Now, both Megan and her husband enjoy working in the kitchen at the same time!

Another Award Winning Kitchen Designed By Trivonna

Why would you want to consider Cabinets by Trivonna to design your next kitchen (bath, entertainment center, home office, etc.)?   There are many reasons; Two for now:

1. Trivonna’s designs consistently win awards.

The Olympia Master Builders presented their 2012 Remodeling Excellence (REX) Awards last week.  As usual, remodeling contractor’s who use Trivonna’s designs won two REX awards.  (Seven of Trivonna’s designs have won in the last five years.)

Here is what Bob Clark of Home Resources Company had to say about his project.

“Our clients home was typical for the time:  Golden oak cabinets and matching trim. The kitchen was a large galley style with a small island in the center.   The end of the kitchen was closed off by a peninsula that separated the kitchen from the eating nook.   The kitchen nook area was separated from the great room/dining room by a petition wall.

"Our customer wanted to open up the great room to the kitchen. We removed the wall, extended the hardwood throughout the kitchen into the formal dining room, and installed the new cherry cabinets provided by Cabinets by Trivonna. New granite countertops and appliances completed the new Kitchen and remodel. As you walk from the entry into the great room, you now have a panoramic view that includes the beautiful new kitchen."

But this is not just another "Pretty Face":

2. Trivonna's designs are always about you!

She gives the extra time to listen to what you want and what will work for your family. She will then design your project to make your dream a functioning reality that you will love for years to come. In the process, you will discover new and exciting ideas to make your kitchen more enjoyable. For example, notice all the drawers in the kitchen – no getting on your hands and knees to reach the back of the cabinet. Mary Lou, the home owner is what I call "vertically challenged" (like me). She had difficulty reaching many of her dishes (That's what her tall husband is for). Take a look at Mary Lou's new dish drawer.

They also wanted extra pullouts in their pantries:

Dick and Mary Lou commented on their new kitchen: “The most common comment we get on our new kitchen is WOW!  We sincerely appreciated your professional advice and counsel as we went through the extensive remodel.  We could not have done it without you.  You didn’t just sell us a kitchen; you were a partner and friend throughout the process.  Thank you for all you did to help us with our dream kitchen.”

Local Kitchen Remodel: Cabinets By Trivonna – Creating A Nurturing Environment

Kitchen Cabinets Custom Design

In order to create a truly nurturing environment, a designer needs to fully comprehend what prompts a customer to want to remodel their kitchen.  When Trivonna first talked with Judy, she learned that Judy’s existing cabinets were somewhat dated and beginning to fail.  She also learned that Judy wanted to move from the “country look” that she currently had to a more sophisticated look.

As Judy and Trivonna talked further, Judy indicated that, as empty-nesters,  they didn’t need both a formal dining room and a breakfast nook.  More counter space would be preferred over room for a table and chairs.  As an added bonus, Judy’s husband could sit at the counter and still see the TV!

When Trivonna went out to Judy's home, she noticed that Judy also had a butler's pantry between the kitchen and the formal dining room. This space was not well used. Trivonna was able to open up that space and provide almost twice the usable storage.

Olympia Area Kitchen Designer – Cabinets By Trivonna:
Creates Another Nurturing Environment That Won A Olympia Master Builders 2011 Remodeling Excellence Award

In order to create a truly nurturing environment, a designer needs to fully comprehend what prompts a customer to want to remodel their kitchen.  Trivonna often asks lots of questions both in our showroom and in the customer's kitchen.

In talking with Larry and Elizabeth, she learned that Larry was the primary cook, but both were active in the kitchen – often in each other's way. For example: she needed in the oven while he was at the stove. Upon entering their kitchen she saw that it was somewhat dated (tile counters, white doors on wood cabinets with framed soffits and pantry).

Kitchen Cabinets Before

As they talked, she learned that, when working at the computer desk, they felt like they were in a hole — separated from the rest of the family. They also needed more (or more usable) storage.

Kitchen Cabinets Before

After considering various design ideas, the new kitchen featured Dewils inset cherry cabinets. The upper cabinets kissed the ceiling (adding more storage).  The framed in pantry was replaced with two pantry cabinets including a combination of drawers and roll out trays, providing far more accessible storage.  The desk was moved to the end of the kitchen near the family room.  A wall microwave and oven were installed away from the cook-top.
